A video call lets you see and hear the person you are talking to. It is a great way to stay close to family and friends, wherever they are.
You download video-calling apps from the Play Store. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger both let you make video calls.
You can call one person or several, by voice or by video, much like a normal phone call. To make a call, your phone needs to be connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Getting started with WhatsApp
- If WhatsApp is not already on your phone, find it in the Play Store. Tap Install and accept the terms of use.
- Enter your mobile number, including the country code.
- You will receive a code by text message. Enter it to confirm your number.
- WhatsApp will ask for access to your contacts and other data on your phone. You need to allow this.
Video calling with WhatsApp
- Tap the Calls tab at the top of the screen.
- Tap the green phone icon with a plus sign to start a call. You can also use the search field to find a contact.
- Tap the video icon next to the person you want to call.
The call starts with your self-view camera switched on. During the call, you can:
- Switch cameras by tapping the camera icon with arrows in the bottom-left corner.
- Turn off your video by tapping the video icon at the bottom centre. The call carries on as a voice call.
- Mute yourself by tapping the microphone icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Add someone to the call by tapping the contact icon with a plus sign in the top-right corner.
That's it. You're ready to make video calls on your Doro smartphone.
Video calling with Facebook Messenger
- In the Facebook app, tap the Messenger icon in the top-right corner, to the right of the search field. It looks like a speech bubble with a lightning bolt.
- If Messenger is not installed, follow the instructions on the screen to install it.
- Log in with your Facebook details. Your Facebook friends will appear in Messenger too.
- Type a name in the search field to find the person you want to call.
- The phone and video icons are in the top-right corner. Tap the video icon to start a video call.
