Your smartphone can also be a calculator and a torch. Like a Swiss Army knife, it has apps and shortcuts for everyday life, and it is always with you.
Torch
Most smartphones have a torch. The LED light that works as the camera flash in low light can also be used as a torch. It is handy in the dark, and you do not need to carry a separate one.
Calendar
Do you have a doctor’s appointment, a family lunch or a TV programme you do not want to miss? Instead of trying to remember it or checking a paper diary, add it to the calendar on your phone. You choose how far in advance you want a reminder.
Calculator
There is no need for mental maths or a separate calculator. Most smartphones have a calculator built in, so you can work things out wherever you are.
Notebook
Your phone also has a small built-in notebook. Use it for notes such as your shopping list.
Sound
- Turn the volume up or down with the buttons on the side of your phone.
- You will find other sound settings in the Settings menu. There you can choose your ringtone and the tone for new messages.
- You can also choose whether your phone vibrates when it is on silent.
Flight mode
If you leave your phone switched on during a flight, it may interfere with the aircraft’s electronics. Flight mode prevents this without you having to switch your phone off completely.
In flight mode, you can still use things like games. If the plane has free Wi-Fi, you can also browse the internet over Wi-Fi with flight mode switched on.
