Many people ask why their smartphone needs charging more often than their old mobile phone. The answer is that a smartphone can do far more: it is really a small computer, and computers need more power.
Shorter battery life
“My old phone only needed charging once or twice a week, but my new smartphone needs charging every day.” We hear this a lot, and it is true.
Modern smartphones generally have a shorter battery life than older mobile phones, which were mainly used for calls and text messages. It is all the extra things a smartphone can do that use up the battery.
Unlimited possibilities
With a smartphone, you can do all of this and more:
- Send and receive email.
- Search the internet.
- Watch films.
- Listen to music, the radio and audiobooks.
- Read the newspaper.
- Share photos straight away.
- Shop online.
All of this drains the battery faster. But a few simple habits mean it does not have to be a problem.
Charge every night
How do you avoid a flat battery just when you need your phone most? The best answer is to charge it often.
Make it a habit to charge your phone in the evening, or when you get home for the day. A fully charged phone should last a whole day, even with heavy use.
Keep an eye on the battery indicator in the top right corner of the screen.
Bring a charging cable
Even if you are careful about charging, take a charging cable with you when you will be away from home for a long time.
If your battery runs low, you can usually find somewhere to plug in at libraries, cafés, restaurants and other public places. A coffee break while your phone charges never hurt anyone. Many trains also have power sockets at or near the seats.
Desktop charger
A Doro charging cradle is an easy way to keep your phone charged without plugging in a cable each time. Put your phone in the cradle when you get home and pick it up when you go out.
While it sits in the cradle, your phone can also work as a radio or an alarm clock.
