Facebook helps you keep up with family and friends, and it has other features that can make everyday life easier and more enjoyable.
This lesson shows you how to share articles, go to events and send messages to friends from your Doro smartphone. These are just some of the things you can do, and there is plenty more to explore once you feel at home in the app.
Write a post or upload a photo
A post, also called updating your status, can be seen by all your Facebook friends. When you open the app, you start in the News Feed.
Write a post
- Tap the field near the top that says What’s on your mind?
- Tap it again to bring up the keyboard, then type your message.
- Tap Post at the top right when you are ready.
Upload a photo
- Tap the green photo icon to open your phone’s gallery. The first time you do this, Facebook asks for permission to access your photos. You need to allow this.
- Tap the photo or photos you want to share, then tap Done.
- If you like, add a description in the field that says Say something about this photo…
- Tap Post at the top right.
Comment and share posts
Under each post you will find Like, Comment and Share.
Comment on a post
Tap Comment, write your comment and tap Post. Keep in mind that everyone can read your comment, not just the person who wrote the post.
Share a post
- Tap Share under the post and choose Write Post.
- Add a description if you like, then tap Post at the top right.
Follow a page
Organisations, businesses and interest groups use Facebook pages and groups to share information and start discussions. You might find a group for people who share your interests, a page for a TV programme or a page for your local community.
- Type a search word, for example baking, in the search field at the top and tap Search.
- The results are sorted into categories such as People, Pages, Groups and Events. Tap a result to open it.
- To keep up to date, tap Follow in the menu below the profile picture. For a group, tap Join.
Events
Facebook can show event invitations with all the details in one place, including a map and directions, who has been invited and who is going. You can check for last-minute changes and look at the map on your way there.
For larger events, such as festivals and exhibitions, tap Going or Interested under the date and description. Your friends can then see your plans.
To see who else is going or interested, scroll down and tap the number under each category.
Direct messaging with Messenger
Posts on Facebook are public. With Messenger, you can send private messages to one or more friends, and only the people you send them to can read them.
Messenger works much like text messages (SMS), but it needs an internet connection, either Wi-Fi or mobile data.
You can read more about using your smartphone abroad in our guide how to use Wi-Fi and avoid data roaming charges.
Open Messenger
- In Facebook, tap the speech bubble with a lightning bolt at the top right, just to the right of the search field.
- If Messenger is not installed, follow the instructions on the screen to install it.
You log in to Messenger with your Facebook account, and your Facebook friends are there too.
Now you are ready to connect with friends and with other people who share your interests. Good luck with Facebook on your Doro smartphone.
