Why doesn’t my phone come with a charger?
The new EU rule for mobile phone chargers
If you’ve opened your new Doro phone and wondered where the charger is, don’t worry — nothing is missing.
New European common charger rules are designed to make chargers easier to reuse and help reduce unnecessary electronic waste. As part of this change, Doro phones are supplied without a power adaptor in the box.
You’ll still receive the charging cable you need. You can connect it to a compatible USB power adaptor you already own, or purchase a new one if needed.
FAQs
What comes in the box?
We want you to know exactly what you’re getting before you buy.
Depending on the Doro model you choose, your box may include:
- A charging cable — either USB-C to USB-C or USB-A to USB-C, depending on the model.
- A charging cradle on selected models — a convenient place to dock and charge your phone.
- Your phone and model-specific accessories shown on the product page.
You can find a picture of everything included in the box on each Doro product page.
Does a charging cradle work on its own?
No. If your Doro phone includes a charging cradle, the cradle still needs to be connected to a power adaptor using the supplied cable.
Charging cradles are designed for specific Doro models, so a cradle from an older Doro phone may not be compatible with a newer device.
How can I tell if a charger is included?
Look below the price on the product page and you’ll see charging information for your phone.
Crossed-out charger symbol
This means a power adaptor is not included in the box.
Charging power symbol
This shows the minimum and maximum power required by the phone when charging.
For example, if a phone displays 0.6–2.75 W:
- 0.6 W is the minimum power needed for the phone to begin charging.
- 2.75 W is the maximum power the phone can use for charging.
What kind of charger do I need?
You don’t need a Doro-specific power adaptor.
You can use a compatible USB power adaptor, provided that:
- It has the correct USB port for the cable supplied with your phone.
- It can provide at least the minimum charging power shown for your phone.
Check the wattage
Every Doro phone displays its minimum and maximum charging power.
For example, if your phone displays 0.6–2.75 W:
- An adaptor providing less than 0.6 W will not provide enough power to charge the phone.
- An adaptor capable of providing between 0.6 W and 2.75 W can charge the phone, although charging speed may vary.
- An adaptor capable of providing more than 2.75 W, such as a 20 W adaptor, can also be used. The phone will still only draw the amount of power it supports.
Can I use a more powerful charger?
Yes. A compatible charger with a higher maximum wattage is fine.
Your phone controls how much power it uses, so connecting it to a 20 W charger does not mean that 20 W will automatically be sent to the phone.
It will only draw the power it supports.
Good to know: Using a higher-powered compatible charger will not make the phone charge faster than its maximum supported charging speed.
USB-C or USB-A — which do I need?
The important thing is the plug on the adaptor end of the cable.
USB-C to USB-C
The Doro Leva and Doro Aurora ranges come with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable.
You’ll need a power adaptor with a USB-C port.
USB-A to USB-C
Some other Doro phones come with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable.
You’ll need a power adaptor with a traditional USB-A port.
Not sure which one your phone uses? Check the What’s in the box information on the product page.
Why are chargers no longer included?
Millions of people already have USB chargers at home.
European common charger rules are intended to make charging more consistent across devices and reduce the need to buy a new charger every time you replace your phone.
Reusing an adaptor you already own can help reduce electronic waste while also meaning fewer unnecessary accessories need to be manufactured and transported.
If you don’t already have a compatible charger — or simply want a spare — you can purchase one from Doro or from most electronics retailers.
